‘My in-laws don’t even know our kids’
After years of swallowing her mother-in-law’s stitches underwater, Ymke informed her husband that from then on he could only go to his parents. He broke off contact with his parents completely.
Ymke (34): “His mother and I didn’t like each other from day one. Typical case of ‘no click’. She criticized everything and said casually that she thought I was unsuitable as a life partner for Rolf. For years I swallowed her stings underwater, until I didn’t feel like it anymore. My husband Rolf was only allowed to go to his parents, I was done with it.

Lost contact
Rolf immediately took my side and also broke off all contact. Certainly in the beginning it gave peace of mind and ensured that we had much less quarrels together.
“If only I had been a little less firm”
But now, more than five years later, I think: did it have to be so rigorous? If only I had been a little less firm. Now not only Rolf never sees his parents again, our two children also miss a grandfather and grandmother. My in-laws don’t even know our girls. But I wouldn’t know how to fix that. Rolf is too stubborn to take the first step and I don’t dare to contact him behind his back.”
