Do you need new bands for the Apple Watch Pro?

During the iPhone 14 event, Apple will probably also announce the Apple Watch Pro. Until now you could always use your old Apple Watch bands on the latest model, but is that also the case with the Apple Watch Pro?

Apple Watch Pro bands

According to user UnclePan of the Chinese social media site Weibo, the Apple Watch Pro needs a wider band. With a 47mm screen, the Apple Watch Pro is larger than its predecessors, so it could be a logical consequence.

If so, it would be the first time an Apple Watch that isn’t compatible with older bands appears. UnclePan has correctly predicted in the past that the Apple Watch Series 7 would get larger screens of 41 and 45 mm. Reason to take his message seriously.

More rumors about the Apple Watch Pro

Another reliable source is Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. However, he denies UnclePan’s message on Twitter. According to him, old Apple Watch bands can be used on the Apple Watch Pro, but they only fit slightly less well.

So it could be that Apple is going to announce that the new Apple Watch Pro will require new bands, but old bands will still technically fit. In that case, it would just look a little less sleek.

This is a plausible scenario, as we saw something similar with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Apple then indicated that that version would work with the previous-generation Magic Keyboard, but that when closed, it wouldn’t fit perfectly.

A new band on an old Apple Watch

It remains unclear whether a new band, made for the Apple Watch Pro, can also be used on an older Apple Watch. Gurman didn’t say anything about that. This will also become clear in about a week.
