Musk says he won’t change his mind ‘unless at gunpoint’

Elon Musk is a true absolutist on free speech and will not change his mind unless held at gunpoint.

Musk is active in Ukraine with Starlink and thus provides the population with internet. He says Starlink will not block Russian media “unless at gunpoint.” He believes that the Russian information can also be found, even if it may be fake news.

Musk won’t change his mind

“Sorry to be an absolutist of free speech.” This is what Musk said last week. The CEO of SpaceX, said some governments recently told the company to block Russian media from its Starlink satellite broadband service. In a tweet Musk stated that the company would not comply with the request. According to him, the question did not come from Ukraine.

The richest man in the world also said SpaceX would temporarily shift its priorities to focus on cybersecurity and preventing signal jamming. A decision he said would cause “slight delays” in the rollout of its reusable Starship rocket and Starlink V2 satellites.

Tense situation

Of course, Russia is not happy with Musk’s move to offer internet in Ukraine. In addition, SpaceX’s position is at odds with a growing list of companies that have blocked access to Russian state media across Europe after the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

On February 27, the European Union said it would ban the Russian state-backed media Russia Today and Sputnik. This is because of their role in spreading misinformation and “lies to justify Putin’s war”. Both Facebook and YouTube quickly complied with the request.
