Mouth caps exemption is not added to the CoronaCheck app

Those who do not have to wear a face mask for medical reasons cannot demonstrate this via the QR code in the CoronaCheck app. This group must, if requested, provide evidence themselves.

No mouth caps exemption in the CoronaCheck app

Adding the mouth mask exemption to the QR code in the CoronaCheck app would be a godsend. By scanning the QR code, the enforcer could immediately see that the person is not wearing a face mask for medical reasons. Unfortunately, this will not happen, the Ministry of Health informs NU.nl: “An exception to the mask obligation cannot be added to the CoronaCheck app.”

The government does not have a central database in which it keeps track of which people have a mouth cap exemption. It is therefore not possible to generate a QR code with this information. That is why these people will still have to use a ‘Own Declaration exception mouth cap obligation’ to demonstrate this. Currently, the inspector can use the QR code in the CoronaCheck app to see whether the person has a valid test, vaccination or recovery certificate. A green screen will then be displayed. With a red screen, the person does not have a valid Dutch test, vaccination or recovery certificate.

Masks obligation

Since November 6, 2021, a mouth cap in public spaces has been in effect throughout the Netherlands. Wearing a face mask is mandatory in all public indoor locations, such as in the supermarket, the library and in secondary vocational education and higher education. Wearing a face mask outside is advised if it is difficult to keep 1.5 meters away. People who are unable to wear a face mask due to their disability or illness are exempt from this obligation.
