more than half of readers use Gboard as their keyboard app

Gboard is a very popular keyboard app. He was in 2021, but it also comes up in our poll of 2023. 52 percent of readers use Google’s keyboard app. In second place is SwiftKey, which can count on 34 percent of the vote.

AW Poll

One in 10 readers uses the standard keyboard provided by the phone manufacturer. In 2015 we also conducted an AW Poll on this topic and SwiftKey emerged as the winner, while it had already clearly switched to Gboard in the 2021 poll . At that time it was still 48 percent of the respondents who indicated that they use Gboard, but now that is already 52 percent.

Although that is positive for Google, which has indeed developed a very nice keyboard with Gboard, there are drawbacks, as Michele_possamai sees: “I’ve been using Gboard for years, but because of privacy I really just want to get rid of it.. I just can’t live without it. I just can’t get used to swiping and swiftkey 😟” B@Zzz… says very differently, he doesn’t actually know what he has, or is missing: “A satisfied Gboard user for years. For so long that I actually don’t even know what the advantage is compared to other keyboards 🤣”

Foofertje is just a bit more alternative in that respect (and likes to get creative): Foofertje: “Facebook keyboard. Isn’t fun. You can choose one from thousands of custom keyboards by others. But I make them myself. Find and download a beautiful picture on Pinterest. And you can get started. Choose font, color of the keys, if you want sound when typing, they have different sounds. And special effects. When I type, a small star goes off for each key. Highly recommended!”

Other keyboard apps, such as Chrooma, Ginger Emoji, and Florisboard, are not used at all. Fleksy, Hacker’s Keyboard and Grammarly Keyboard can count on just one or a few votes. OpenBoard is slightly more popular with 1.42 percent of the votes. Finally, 2 percent indicate that they use another keyboard app, including Foofertje.
