More and more competition for ChatGPT

We hope you had a good day and now we want to give you some exciting information to take with you into the evening. t3n Daily is also available as a newsletter. Here are the topics of the day.

Elon Musk introduces new AI company

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has founded a new AI company. Under the name xAI, he has assembled a team of 11 experts to build an AI with the goal of nothing less than “understanding the true nature of the universe”. Musk wants to counter the competition ChatGPT, in whose development he himself was initially involved, with a chatbot that is committed to the truth. The open AI software occasionally gives completely wrong information because it mainly estimates word for word how a sentence could go on – and the plausibility sometimes falls by the wayside. Musk himself has announced that he wants to take over the CEO position at xAI.

Bard comes to Germany

The Irish data protection commission DPC, which is responsible in Europe, has given the green light: Google may also offer its chatbot Bard on the European market, including Germany. For its larger expansion, the artificial intelligence also learned a few additional languages, including German, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and Spanish. Bard is supposed to compete with ChatGPT, especially because Microsoft has ventured very far into the Google-dominated search engine sector with its in-house chatbot – a development that the company may not have liked at all.

Also new at Bard: You can have answers read out to you. According to Google manager Jack Krawczyk, this is particularly advantageous “when you want to hear the correct pronunciation of a word or have a poem or script read to you”. The function is available in 40 languages.

The new “Fifa” successor is called “EA Sports FC 24”

After 29 years, Fifa and the game developer Electronic Arts have ended their cooperation and have not renewed the license. What initially shocked the fans, the EA developers were able to catch up with more than 300 individual license partners. In the new football game “EA Sports FC 24” there should be 19,000 well-known players in 700 teams, 100 official stadiums and 30 international leagues are represented, including of course all European top leagues. In addition to the tournament events of the Europa League, Conference League and Men’s Champions League, this time you can also replay the Women’s Champions League. The only major event missing is the World Cup. According to rumors, “EA Sports FC 24” will be released at the end of September and will cost 109.99 euros in the Ultimate Edition or 79.99 euros in the Standard Version.

Debt trap overdraft facility

Just overdraw the account? That can happen quickly. What many do not realize: The so-called overdraft facility is nothing more than a form of credit – a particularly disadvantageous one for customers at that. Anyone who slips into the red pays an average of 11.2 percent interest per year. With permanent debts of 2,500 euros, for example, additional costs of 250 euros can quickly arise. A fatally high sum, especially for people whose accounts are often not covered.

Particularly annoying: While the ECB’s interest rate turnaround is hardly being passed on to savers, the banks are happy to go too far with the overdraft interest rate – and have increased it by an average of 2.1 percent compared to the previous year. If you are permanently in the overdraft facility with a manageable amount, it is better to convert to a framework or installment loan, which is usually significantly cheaper depending on the term and amount. For short-term overcoats, it is more advisable to use a credit card.

Some offers even cheaper after Prime Day

Although yesterday’s Prime Day is over, there are still some bargains to be had the day after. While it is better to wait for Black Friday for Amazon’s own brands such as Echo, Ring or Blink, the Google Pixel 7 (Pro), for example, is still cheaper today. Other smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (512 gigabytes) in Phantom Black cost 1,167 instead of 1,579 euros today, even less than on Prime Day itself. The Google Pixel Watch and Google Pixel Buds Pro are also cheaper. Even if the real Apple bargain highlight didn’t materialize this year, there are still a lot of Apple products available at a discount today. Interested parties can still save when buying vacuum and floor mopping robots and Bluetooth boxes.
