Monique Westenberg: ‘I felt a strange kind of sadness, because I would no longer have a baby’

She talks candidly about the birth of her niece and the mixed feelings that came with it.

No more baby

In the spring, Monique received special news: her brother and sister-in-law were expecting a third child. “I was of course very happy and happy for them, and I was really looking forward to the arrival of my new niece,” writes Monique. The news came in a difficult period, namely right after the break with André Hazes. “In addition to happiness, I also felt a strange kind of sadness, because I knew that I would not have a baby of my own. I awarded it to my brother and sister-in-law, but I also awarded it to myself’, says Monique.

Special experience

Before Monique learned that she was going to be an aunt again, she visited a spiritual coach and medium, who told her something remarkable. She said, ‘I see a girl around you. A girl yet to be born.’ I thought that was strange at the time, because after my breakup with André I knew that I would not have any more children. So who was that girl then?’ Monique continues. But after the birth of her niece, everything fell into place: this is the girl the coach was talking about. ‘And there, in the hospital, I realized once again what a rich person I am with a healthy son, lovely family and three little nieces who live in my heart’, says Monique. Her son André is now five years old.
