Monica Geuze about feeling guilty about working abroad

Going abroad for a nice job is not without tears for presenter Monica Geuze. It means that she has to leave daughter Zara-Lizzy (4) behind, and that remains difficult. “The stronger your bond, the harder it is for me to leave.”

She talks about it in the podcast V4der by Pepijn Lanen, who told Monica about her experience with momguilt asks. “I often have to work abroad, and apart from that I also work quite a lot,” she says. “I find it difficult because her father works abroad. If I also go, it is not that her father is still there.” It’s a double feeling. “I also really like my job and I enjoy it. Only I always feel very guilty towards her.”

The tighter, the harder

When Monica works abroad, Zara-Lizzy is in good hands with Monica’s parents or the babysitter. “I have a really fantastic babysitter, who has an amazing click with Zara-Lizzy. I never have the idea of: ooh, are you okay? I trust the people who are with her.” The presenter notices that she finds it increasingly difficult to leave home for a longer period of time. “The older your child gets, the more time you spend together, the stronger your bond becomes and the harder I find it to leave. It keeps getting worse, because you get closer and closer.” And that farewell does not go without the necessary tears. “On the plane it is always whining the entire flight. I show everyone next to me pictures of what she looked like as a baby. I’m really awful.”
