Minecraft: So you can build a piston (recipe)
Pistons can be used to move neighboring blocks. This makes it possible to create doors, elevators and other mechanisms. To make a piston you need the following raw materials:
- 3x boards (regardless of the type of wood)
- 4x quarry stone
- 1x iron bar
- 1x redstone
You place these in the workbench as follows when entering data:
Craft Sticky Flask (Recipe)
In addition to pistons that move, there are also the counterpart sticky pistons that pull blocks. To do this, you have to make a flask and add a slime ball to the workbench:
Slime balls are dropped from small slimes. These spawn in slime chunks below level 40. Alternatively, they also appear in swamp biomes and lowland worlds.
How the pistons work
Pistons are activated with the help of redstone signals and can move 12 adjacent blocks at once.
From the 13th block on, the piston is overwhelmed and no longer moves any blocks.- The piston can stop the flow of lava and water, so you can too use as part of an airlock. The thin section with the rod when it is extended also stops water and lava, so don’t be surprised here.
- You can only influence the direction in which the piston pushes when setting it up and do not change it afterwards without tearing it down.
- Pistons can also move mutually. However, there are also items that cannot be moved. These include bedrock, obsidian, anvil, end portal frame, nether portal and the end portal.
- To activate the piston, the Redstone pipe straight to the piston and not just walk past him.
- If you move growing cacti or sugar cane, they are dropped and you can collect them afterwards. The same goes for torches and similar items.
The possibilities of pistons are huge, so you can make automatic doors, traps, elevators, harvesters and the like. Instructions for these constructions would go beyond the scope at this point. The following YouTube video from the Scrocy channel gives you a good overview of pistons in connection with Redstone:
