Miami’s mayor wants to receive his wages in bitcoin

Miami is considered to be particularly crypto-friendly. In June, the Bitcoin Conference 2021 in Miami made a lot of positive headlines. For example, Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, also used the event to announce the introduction of Bitcoin as legal tender. Just three months later, it was finally a reality. Suarez is also a clear advocate of bitcoin. After China forced the Bitcoin mining centers to cease operations, Suarez gave the operations a warm welcome to Miami.

Now Suarez has committed to processing his next paycheck entirely in Bitcoin, making him the first known US politician to take such a step. “I will withdraw 100 percent of my next paycheck in Bitcoin … problem solved”, tweeted Suarez in response to Anthony Pompliano’s tweet asking who would be the first US politician to accept his salary in BTC.

In February, Suarez’s proposal to add Bitcoin to Miami’s operations was approved, but development has since stalled. More recently, however, Suarez has claimed that paying government employees in Bitcoin is still a “high priority” for the city of Miami.
