Meta has competition. Google is bouncing on a trend called meta-version

Having your own meta-version is probably a cool and new standard. After Facebook (actually Meta), Google is already coming up with this idea. This, given the experience with software development (Android), could mean serious competition for Meta. The report was brought by the Android Police portal.

Google and its meta-version: Google Glass is back?

After almost ten years since Google Glass, these glasses are slowly but surely coming back in a new version and with a new idea. They are to use North, which they bought during the summer of 2020. North is a manufacturer of smart glasses that failed to launch a sequel while it was part of Intel. At first, it was not known what Google could do with North, but everything is starting to make sense – they are building a meta-version.

North is best known for special smart glasses that combine lenses with a smart display. With a built-in microphone and control ring, these smart glasses acted as a head-up display. They alerted incoming notifications and also enabled navigation.

Google Glass never went on sale, but it looked like something the company could return to over time. The technology of its time may have been behind, but now there’s a trend with a metaver, so maybe it’s the right time to return Google glasses. Together with the wise heads of the North, this idea could come true.

In addition, Android Police points out that the news came weeks after Google hired a high-ranking man from Oculus. Oculus belongs to Facebook (Meta) and helps them develop AR / VR glasses. We’ll see if we find out more later this year – we’re curious.
