MediaTek did not escape the chip crisis either. Processor prices are rising sharply
Demand for MediaTek chipsets is growing every year, but due to the global crisis with a lack of chips, the manufacturer is unable to produce as much as it needs. For this reason, it now plans to significantly increase the prices of its processors, which will be reflected in the prices of smartphones in the future. The Gizmochin portal informed about the news.
MediaTek processor prices will go up by up to 15%
MediaTek has not yet commented on the situation, but sources close to the issue have confirmed the rise in prices. Thanks to this step, the company is expected to achieve much higher profits. The change will hit processors with 4G connectivity support the most, the price of which will increase by up to 15%. The manufacturer is currently focusing on the production of 5G chipsets, but 4G processors are still in high demand due to the fact that many countries do not yet have nationwide 5G coverage. Chipsets with 5G support expect only a 5% price increase.
The main reason for the price increase is the increase in production costs of TSMC, which is involved in the chipset production process. The company has previously increased the prices of its WiFi chips by approximately 20%. Samsung Electronics, a manufacturer, was later forced to take a similar step. It is now expected that the prices of its processors will also be increased by the competing company Qualcomm, but so far nothing is certain.
