McCree from Overwatch is renamed Cole Cassidy -apkrig

As early as the end of August, we informed you that the McCree gunslinger from the game Overwatch will be renamed. It was the result of an unpleasant case involving Activision, King and Blizzard, in this case due to the inappropriate behavior of the dismissed Diablo IV designer Jesse McCree, after whom the character was named. Less than two months ago, Blizzard had no further information, but since the end of last week we have known that McCcree is changing his identity and we will know him again as Cole Cassidy. The new identity will take effect on Tuesday, October 26, and the developers came up with an explanation in a short post on social networks following the lore game.

“The first thing the renegade loses is his name, and this one gave it up a long time ago,” says Cassidy’s new label. “Running away from one’s past meant running away from oneself, and each step only widened the gap between who he was and what he became,” the developers explain, in line with the story of the dreaded gunslinger. But in the light of the aforementioned case, the description might also fit designer Jesse McCree, which some fans point out and ask developers if something like this was necessary at all. Other topics after the announcement of the new name lead to various speculations as to why the developers chose the surname Cassidy and it is certainly not revealing to connect it with the surname of the infamous villain Butch Cassidy. But as the fans pointed out, it was the real Butch Cassidy who had Harry Alonzo as a partner, and by combining the first and last letters of the name and surname,… HANZO! But it reminds us of a rather dull joke that when you change four letters in the word beer and add one, love is created. In any case, now without embarrassing humor, nothing will move with the authors of Overwatch at this moment, and players will have no choice but to get used to the new civilian name of one of the very popular characters.

However, nothing else should change, at least for the needs of the first part of the game, although the developers did not indicate that they would plan any last-minute changes for the upcoming second part in accordance with the name change. In the end, an intervention in the design of the game could be undesirable, if in connection with Overwatch 2, the abilities of all heroes have been optimized and balanced – in addition, there will be one less in the teams. However, Blizzard will no longer name anything in games according to the developers in the future, and this rule applies not only to the names of characters, but also to various places named spells, spells, objects and anything else that has a specific designation.
