MBank clients beware! Fraudsters are again acting on behalf of the bank

Fraudulent e-mails await clients of another bank. Last week, we informed about fraudsters who pretend to be VUB Bank. Now the reader Dušan has alerted us to a very similar fraud, but on behalf of mBank.

Fraudsters send random users (whether they are clients of the bank or not) to send an email notifying them that they have detected suspicious activity on their bank account and then blocking the account. Attached at the end of the message is a button with a link where the account can be restored. However, it will not redirect you to mBank internet banking.

For suspicious emails, always check the sender’s email address

Scammers were very concerned about creating this fake e-mail. Except for minor shortcomings in the graphics and text, it looks quite credible. What is no longer so trustworthy is the sender’s email address. Behind the at sign we find only the word “casablanca-taza”, which has nothing to do with mBank. Most companies, including mBank, use a domain or company name in the second part of the address. It can also be expected that the bank will use an address with the suffix .sk when communicating with Slovak clients.

What to do if you can’t tell if it’s real or fake news

With so many pitfalls, it can be difficult to tell which emails are fraudulent and which are real. If you receive a message and you are not sure if it is really from your bank, please contact its official infoline, the number of which can be found on Google. You can also find out more in person at any branch. Always sign in to internet banking by manually entering a link in your browser or via Google.

We also sent this screenshot to mBank with a question about whether the bank knows about similar activity. As soon as we receive an answer, we will add it to this article.
