Lock conversations in WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow you to secure individual conversations on your iPhone. It is already possible to secure WhatsApp with, for example, Face ID. You must first unlock the app before you can access all conversations.

The new feature therefore adds another layer of security, because then you can also lock individual conversations in WhatsApp. This way you can be sure that a private conversation won’t just be read if someone uses your phone for a while. Face ID or Touch ID is used to secure the call.

List of secure chats in WhatsApp

If you choose to protect a conversation in WhatsApp, that chat will be moved to a list of all protected conversations. If you receive a notification from such a secure chat, its content is hidden. So you will no longer have to secure the entire app, but only the conversations that you prefer to keep private on WhatsApp.

The new feature is currently only coming to WhatsApp for iPhone. The chat is not protected on other devices that are linked to your WhatsApp account. Via WhatsApp Web you will soon be able to read a locked conversation without using Face ID or Touch ID. In the future, the chats on linked devices will be protected, but with a password or code.
