What is Little Nightmares 2?

Almost four Years after the release of Little Nightmares, the second part of the Stealth adventures with disturbing horror elements and an AI companion that you already know from the first part: Six. But this time you take on the role of the boy Mono, who stumbles through numerous levels of a nightmare with a paper bag over his head. Once again it is important to avoid all enemies as undetected and to survive.

Chained and immersed in his art: The imagery in Little Nightmares 2 is strong.

There is no explanation or dialogue in the disturbing adventure: You only know that Mono hides from everything bad and goes through bad things in a world full of adults. Escapism, the escape from reality, is in the foreground in Little Nightmares 2. This is already expressed by the paper bag that the little boy uses to hide from the outside world. But the individual characters and even gameplay elements also reflect this theme. Sometimes you just have to take a closer look.

Test conclusion with strengths and weaknesses

With the colorful mixture of escape passages, sneaking sequences and small puzzles, Little Nightmares 2 surpasses its predecessor in many ways. Unfortunately, the sometimes very imprecise controls are particularly noticeable in fights: Mono can often take up a weapon to defend itself with force. The expandable precision swinging the weapon sometimes leads to frustration, because when you watch a sequence for the tenth time, it just isn’t scary anymore.

Beautiful, disturbing world

In order not to spoil too much, and because we probably did not understand the story 100 percent ourselves, we want everything about them at this point Journey of Mono and Six betray. But we can’t help but emphasize that the developers did a really good job with the characters in the world of Little Nightmares 2. The teacher you may know from the trailer is very different from what it initially appears. So she conscientiously pursues her job as a teacher and does not tolerate naughty children in her classroom, but does not seem to have any influence in the cafeteria on the porcelain-headed students who are beating their heads there. Literally! A little later you get to know other faces of the strict lady: She probably beats naughty children, stretches her monstrous neck for many meters and in her spare time she skips to the piano to calmly pursue her hobby.

People are completely fascinated by the flickering screens. TOO fascinated …

The teacher is just one of many examples, because Little Nightmares 2 is full of characters that have more depth than you might think. If you escape from the school, you will soon be sneaking through the city and encountering countless, faceless residents who stand in front of flickering screens as if bound. Don’t you dare to unplug them from their TV sets, that will be your death sentence! Over time, Mono can withstand the attractive forces of the cigarette box and use them to his advantage: like a portal, the screens lead him to otherwise inaccessible places. You could say that the two children flee through the screen from one reality to the next. Or it’s just one distorted type of fast travel, who knows?

Riddles for the senses

You won’t discover our personal gameplay highlight until the end of the game. However, this is not a character, but a puzzle that Mono has to overcome. Trapped in the corridor of a house with many doors that seem to lead nowhere, an oppressive feeling arises: Which door leads to freedom? At this point, the developers are playing with one of the game’s great strengths: music. The background noise in Little Nightmares 2 supports the otherwise rather quiet story and makes every small mistake sound. You also have to listen carefully to the door puzzle in order to find the correct way. Over and over again. If you choose the wrong door, you are caught in a seemingly endless loop.

Little Nightmares 2 has been released for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox One since February 11, 2021.
