Leaked: Apple once worked on an iPhone nano
Who would have thought, bringing the concept of the iPod nano to the iPhone. It was a serious consideration from Apple.
Go back in time. You used to be all the kid if you had an iPod Nano. That was in the era when you were cool with an Apple product. Today, the brand is so mainstream that everyone around you uses an iPhone. Apple used to be just a bit more prestige in that regard. The iPod nano, of course, had its signature click wheel. A unique way to use the music player.
That concept of that nano was once considered to bring to the iPhone. The rumors were always there, but hard evidence was lacking. Until now. The Verge managed to obtain an e-mail from October 2010. In the e-mail traffic at the time, Apple CEO Steve Jobs talked about a nano iPhone.
It is a cryptic email with only bullet points. In other words, ideas to discuss during a meeting. For example, it can be concluded from that email that Jony Ive should design the telephone. In addition, it should be a smaller iPhone than the smartphone of the time. Mind you, in 2010, the iPhone 4 was Apple’s flagship.
The question, of course, is whether an iPhone nano would ever have been a success. At the time, Apple was barely dealing with a flop. The iPhone 4 was a success, because of its beautiful glass design. The iPhones after that were also successes time and again. Would a nano also have been a hit? It’s probably not for nothing that it stayed with an idea.
