iPhone 15 models get USB-C port
The new iPhone 15 models that will be released next year will all be equipped with a USB-C port. This is the result of new European legislation, which states that all new electronic devices must have a USB-C connection from November 2024. This should reduce electronic waste in the future.
Due to this new law, Apple chooses to provide all iPhone 15 models with a USB-C port next year. So Apple’s Lightning era is coming to an end.
Only iPhone 15 Pro gets the fast USB-C port
The standard iPhone 15 models do not improve in terms of speed with the new USB-C port. These models keep the USB 2.0 speed, which is equivalent to the speed of the Lightning port. This limits you to a speed of 480MB per second.
According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro will be equipped with a faster USB-C port. The iPhone 15 Pro supports USB 3.2 and Thunderbolt 3. With USB 3.2 support you can transfer 20GB per second, with Thunderbolt 3 even 40GB per second. A huge difference with the USB 2.0 speed.
Transfer videos (much) faster with the iPhone 15 Pro
In practice, this means that you can transfer files much faster with your iPhone 15 Pro if it is connected to your laptop with a cable, for example. The transfer speeds are much higher, with which Apple is trying to make the iPhone 15 Pro more attractive.
Are you satisfied with the transfer speeds of your current iPhone? Or do you (almost) never connect your iPhone with a cable to transfer files? Then you’re fine for now. It is hoped that in the future all new iPhone models will be equipped with the faster USB-C connection.
We still have to wait for the iPhone 15 to arrive, but there is already a lot of speculation about the new features. For example, the iPhone 15 gets new buttons that you can no longer physically press. You still ‘feel’ that you are pressing the button, but the button does not actually move.
In addition, it is rumored that Apple will switch to a different naming from next year. For example, it will not be the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but the iPhone 15 Ultra. Read five other new features of the iPhone 15 here.
