KPN has started six lawsuits in a US court in Wilmington, Delaware. The provider believes a string of tech companies have infringed at least two of its patents with their smartphone technology. You can find the charges here.

KPN is targeting Xiaomi, Coolpad, BLU Products, Bullitt Group, Acer and u-blox. Xiaomi and Acer are certainly the best known names. BLU is a Chinese manufacturer of smartphones and we know the British Bullit Group from the Cat smartphones.

Contents of the patents

KPN claims that all of these companies have infringed at least two of its patents. The first patent concerns a method and device for transmitting data that can also be used to detect errors. The other patent describes a computer that can remotely control other devices.

KPN now wants a financial compensation and it is also asking the court to prevent the further use of the technology. The telecom provider states that it has previously made attempts to conclude licenses with these companies, but without results. Samsung previously settled lawsuits with KPN that took place in Texas in 2014 and 2015. Samsung then concluded a license agreement.
