Kia with realignment: new electric models and car sharing services
No time right now?
Kia is re-launching its electric vehicle strategy. In addition to 11 new models, Kia has announced special vehicles and mobility programs.
With its new strategy, Kia wants to “redefine the entire ecosystem of mobility”, announced the company on the occasion of its investor day. CEO Ho Sung Song emphasized that the recent renaming from Kia Motors to Kia and the new logo represent a realignment.
This includes the transition from the combustion engine to the electric vehicle, a stronger focus on special vehicles and the expansion of mobility services.

11 electric models by 2026
By 2026, Kia plans to offer eleven new electric models, including seven all-electric vehicles. The first of these should hit the market this year.
By 2030, Kia wants to achieve 40 percent of total sales with electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. That would correspond to 1.6 million vehicles. A good half of them should be purely electric vehicles.
Develop platforms for special vehicles
With special vehicles (PBVs), too, Kia is aiming for a “leading global position”. This should include vehicles for autonomous delivery and e-commerce. Kia plans to present its first special vehicle in 2022.
To this end, Kia is cooperating with other companies to develop micro and large platforms. Hyundai recently announced a collaboration with Canoo.
More mobility services
In the area of mobility services, Kia wants to expand its existing car sharing services in Spain, Italy and Russia. For companies and government institutions, Kia will offer a subscription and car sharing service based only on electric vehicles.
Later this year, there will also be “Kia Subscription”, a global version of the “Kia Flex” subscription program that was launched in Korea in 2019.
