Apple Music Sing: karaoke on your iPhone

The feature that lets you sing along to your favorite songs on your iPhone came a bit out of the blue. That doesn’t make Apple Music Sing any less fun, though. You must have an active subscription to Apple Music and iOS 16.2 to use it.

In fact, it had been coming for a long time. Apple had for some time that you could view lyrics while playing songs. So you could sing along for some time, but you always heard the original singer(s) of the song. That will now change with Apple Music Sing.

By the way, Apple Music Sing is not available on all iPhones (and iPads). Your iPhone must have at least an A13 chip. This is the iPhone 11 and above.

This is how you use Apple Music Sing

To sing along to your favorite songs as quickly as possible, follow the steps below.

This is how you use Apple Music Sing: Karaoke on your iPhone

  1. Open Apple Music and launch one of your favorite songs;
  2. Tap the little play bar at the bottom to open the song in full iPhone screen;
  3. At the bottom left you will see a speech bubble, tap it and the lyrics will appear on the screen;
  4. Tap the microphone on the right and hold down your finger on it;
  5. Swipe down to decrease the volume of the vocals;
  6. Then sing along to your favorite music!

Unfortunately, you can’t sing along to all songs yet. For example, some songs have the lyrics, but it is not yet possible to reduce the vocals.

With other songs, the lyrics are indicated per line, while you actually want to see that per word. So Apple is still working on the function, but more and more songs are being added!
