It’s done for MCU series: Disney + disappoints Marvel fans

Some fans have already expected it, for others it is a shock: Disney + does not want to continue two MCU series after the first season. Limited Series Emmy submission confirms there will be no second season. For other MCU series, however, it goes further.

Disney+: Hawkeye and Moon Knight discontinued

Already after first season of Hawkeye and Moon Knight it is over. While Disney+ hasn’t officially confirmed the cancellation of the two MCU series, the streaming provider has opted for the “Limited Series” category when submitting the two series for Emmy awards. That doesn’t really allow any other conclusion than that a second season is no longer to be expected.

According to the official description of the Television Academy for the Limited Series category, a nominated series must “tell a complete, non-recurring story” while “having no ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons” (Source: Variety).

The cancellation should be particularly painful for fans of Moon Knight, as the series was just started. She has been on Disney+ since March 30, 2022. But it’s not enough for more than six episodes.

It doesn’t look any better with Hawkeye either, since here too already after six episodes the end of the flagpole has been reached. The series, set after the events of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, launched on Disney+ in late November 2021.

More about Hawkeye in the official trailer:

Second season at Loki and What If…? approved

Two other MCU series are looking much better than Hawkeye and Moon Knight. Both Loki and the animated series What If…? will continue, as Marvel Studios has already confirmed. At What If…? Expect a return in 2022, while no date has yet been communicated for Loki.
