Android 13 is here: Sony has started rolling out the update for three of its Xperia smartphones. However, a look at the competition shows that the traditional Japanese company needs to step up its game.

Android 13 has been available since mid-August 2022. Many manufacturers of Android smartphones have already been busy and have installed the update on the majority of their current smartphones, above all Google and Samsung. Sony was less quick and only started rolling out the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia IV in early November. Now it’s the turn of three more smartphones.

That Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III and the Xperia PRO-I will also receive this from now on Update to Android 13. Sony announced this via tweet:

All three Xperia smartphones have been around for some time and are no longer brand new. The Xperia 1 III, for example, was introduced around 1.5 years ago. It is understandable that Sony is concentrating on its current devices first. Nevertheless, the group has to become faster in the future. Sony has not revealed in which countries the update will be distributed first.

For example, Google has revised the settings for privacy and data protection and refined the design language Material You. With wirelessly coupled headphones, the connection quality should be increased and power consumption reduced. And comfort functions such as a separate system and app language have also been considered, among other things.
