Huawei will be relying fully on HarmonyOS in the future – it was previously thought. This is not so clear with smartphones. The Chinese company does not want to do without Android completely and is even developing software there that we had actually already completely written off.

Huawei confirms EMUI 12.0 based on Android

Will there suddenly be an update to Android 11 or 12 and EMUI 12.0 for some Huawei phones? Android smartphones from the Chinese group currently still run on Android 10 and have only received an update of their own interface to EMUI 11. Since then it has been said that HarmonyOS is the future. The new operating system is already being rolled out in China and we receive exciting information about it almost every day. But suddenly EMUI 12 appears. The new surface should not actually exist:

In the new version of the pre-installed program “PC Manager” on Huawei notebooks, EMUI 12 is explicitly mentioned. There is talk of HarmonyOS 2 or EMUI 12. So is Huawei still developing its own EMUI interface to make it available for Android smartphones? A transition period would be conceivable for everyone who does not want to switch to HarmonyOS. Huawei could then offer software updates for EMUI smartphones so that customers are not left completely in the rain.

HarmonyOS and EMUI with Android in parallel

The idea of further developing HarmonyOS and EMUI based on Android for a certain period of time and offering them for both user groups has many advantages. If you don’t want to switch to HarmonyOS, you will still get updates. This has been a big problem so far. Nothing came after Android 10. If EMUI 12 suddenly comes along, that would be a really positive signal from Huawei.
