Is PUBG: New State going to unleash a new BR hype?

The founder of the battle royale comes with a new mobile game called PUBG: New State. But is there room for the sequel?

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG as it is called by mortals with limited lifespans, is getting a sequel. PUBG: New State will be the next mobile variant of the wildly popular battle royale game. Could the upcoming new game unleash that same hype again?

PUBG: New State

PUBG: New State will be the third game in the franchise, the founder of the battle royale craze. The game is set in 2051, a few decades after the current games. In line with PUBG: Mobile, the sequel will also be available only for smartphones (iOS and Android).

The game is under development by the creator of the original game, while Mobile was made by Tencent. Therefore, you can expect more traditional gameplay. The basic principle is the same; you drop with x number of players on a brand new island called Troi. You have to make sure you are the last one alive.

You do that by killing the rest, of course in 2051 with a new arsenal of weapons. The developer promises semi-futuristic weaponry and vehicles. In the trailer below, on the other hand, mainly famous guns can be seen. PUBG: New State does introduce new gadgets such as deployable cover and drones. Oh, and the cast iron pan is of course also present.

The next hype?

With the new PUBG, the American developer undoubtedly wants to rekindle the hype of ‘the old days’. The original PUBG (2017) unleashed a whirlwind of battle royale games. Without that game, games like Fortnite and Warzone probably wouldn’t have existed. In any case, they had never grown that big.

But PUBG: New State will have it a bit more difficult. Not only has the BR genre been around for a while, the new game also has to compete against the first mobile spin-off. It remains to be seen whether the limited semi-futuristic content will achieve this.

PUBG: New State is coming out sometime this year for iOS and Android and you can pre-order now. The developer himself uses that term, but it is very likely that this PUBG will also be free-to-play. The first test version of the game will be released soon.
