iPhone 15s in France would abandon the SIM card for only the eSIM

The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro which will be marketed in France may well have a particularity, namely no longer having a drawer for the physical SIM card and being satisfied with the eSIM, according to information fromiGen.

As a reminder, Apple already started the transition last year with the iPhone 14. Not all models sold in the United States support a physical SIM card. Americans must necessarily turn to the eSIM. In the other countries, the physical SIM card remained in place alongside the eSIM. That could change this year in France with the iPhone 15.

It’s all about operators and agreements with Apple. Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile already offer eSIM. But the case of Free Mobile was special since existing subscribers can only switch to the eSIM since November. The iPhone 14s were released in September, so there would have been a blockage for some people.

Now that the eSIM is accessible from the main operators in France, both for new subscribers and for existing subscribers, we suspect that Apple is ready to take the leap with its iPhone 15. Of course, it is not not impossible that other countries are also affected by this change. There is no additional information at this time.

As a reminder, the eSIM is a SIM integrated into your device. It can be a smartphone, a smartwatch or something else. Its configuration is done directly at the level of the device to connect to the network of its operator. This allows for two lines (one line on the physical SIM card and another on the eSIM). Or to have a cellular connection on Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch and other watches.
