‘OnePlus is leaving the Netherlands, OPPO will stay’

Several insiders report on Twitter that OnePlus and OPPO are partially withdrawing from Europe. The sale of their smartphones would be halted in the Netherlands, among other places.

Update 2:30 PM: OPPO has issued a response to the rumour. The comment has been added to this article.

OnePlus and OPPO in the Netherlands

The famous rumor spreader Snoopy Tech and Max Jambor both have learned from their sources that OPPO and OnePlus are withdrawing from Europe. The first countries involved are Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. According to Jambor, both will make an official statement very soon.

At the beginning of 2021, OnePlus announced that it was going to work more closely with OPPO. OPPO and OnePlus, like Vivo and Realme, have been part of the same parent company for years: BBK Electronics. Later that year it was announced that both manufacturers would cooperate in even more areas. The cooperation would mainly bring improvements in the field of software updates. Unfortunately, the smartphones of both brands no longer had to be sold in Germany last year due to a ruling by a German court.

The lawsuit may be one of the causes of a possible departure of both smartphone manufacturers from the Netherlands. Vivo has also disappeared from the Dutch smartphone landscape after three months. According to rumors, Realme would also completely disappear from the Western European market. Some manufacturers have almost completely disappeared from the global smartphone market due to license revocations. In addition, disappointing sales could be a reason to stop. OPPO has already informed us that it has no plans to launch the Find X6 series internationally and that its focus is on more affordable phones.

We hope this rumor does not become reality. Nevertheless, we have asked both OPPO and OnePlus for comment. We already know that OnePlus is currently preparing a statement. Below is OPPO’s response:

OPPO does not intend to withdraw from the Dutch market and remains committed to all existing European markets. We had a good start in 2023 with successful launches of several products in Europe and have a lineup of upcoming products for the rest of the year. OPPO will continue to provide more innovative products and the best service for users in the future.
