’10x optical zoom on iPhone 15 Pro’

There have been rumors for some time that Apple wants to provide a future iPhone with a periscopic zoom lens. Such a camera bends the image, so that you can look around a corner, as it were. This makes it possible to zoom in considerably, without the housing of your device having to be thicker.

According to MacRumors the time has finally come in 2023. The website cites analyst Jeff Pu, who claims that the iPhone 15 Pro will have a 10x optical zoom telephoto lens. In comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max can only zoom in 3x without losing quality. Moving on, the device uses digital zoom. That usually doesn’t make your photos any better.

Apple wouldn’t be the first to introduce such a lens. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra already has a camera with which you can zoom in 10x optically. That device also has a lens that allows you to get the image 3x closer. So you can choose which camera is most suitable for the snapshot you want to shoot. It is unclear whether the iPhone 15 Pro will also have two telephoto lenses for zooming.

What about the iPhone 14?

Earlier we read rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro would already have a periscopic zoom lens. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to wait another year later.

Still, Apple is going to improve the cameras considerably in 2022. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro will probably get a 48-megapixel lens. In recent years, Apple has always opted for 12 megapixel cameras. The higher resolution makes it possible, among other things, to record videos in 8K. When you shoot photos, pixels are likely to merge. That should improve the quality.
