iOS 17 will be major iPhone update with much requested features

With iOS 17, the iPhone will get a new operating system this year. Contrary to previous claims, it is an iPhone update with some coveted features. This reports the reliable Apple insider Mark Gurman.

iOS 17 includes ‘requested features’

In January, Gurman reported that we should not expect too much from iOS 17. The update would mainly focus on bug fixes and performance improvements, rather than new features. This is because Apple prioritized development of the upcoming Apple Reality headset.

However, Apple has deviated from this strategy, Gurman reports in its latest Power On newsletter. iOS 17 is said to have several “nice to have” features targeting some of the most requested features. Details about which functions are involved, the Apple insider does not report.

We hope that the iPhone will finally get a split screen function to use two apps side by side. And like other tech giants, Apple is now fully committed to artificial intelligence (AI): who knows, this may lead to great features in iOS 17, such as better photo editing options.

We would also like more options in the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro (and soon the iPhone 15 series). Other possible improvements include CarPlay, changes to Siri, sideloading support, and support for Apple’s mixed reality headset.

Release

Like other iPhone updates, iOS 17 is expected to be announced at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which traditionally takes place in June. Only then will we know what big features are coming to the iPhone this year.

After the announcement of iOS 17, the operating system will be tested with betas (trial versions) for a few months. The final release is expected to be in September, a few weeks after the iPhone 15 launch.
