iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1: Apple releases new feature updates

Apple has released a new update for the iPhone with iOS 16.1. The US group is thus delivering some functions. The software also fixes various errors. With iPadOS 16.1 and macOS 13 Ventura, new versions are available for the iPad and Mac.

Apple releases iOS 16.1 and iPad OS 16.1

Apple has already released several minor bug fixes in iOS 16. iOS 16.1 is the first major iPhone update, which also has new functions. The most important of these is likely to be the shared iCloud photo library, which should actually be included at the start of iOS 16.

The new media library is similar to a classic photo folder on the iPhone. However, up to five people can access the folder to add or edit photos. In the Photos app, on the other hand, users can choose which pictures they want to include in the iCloud Photo Library.

iOS 16.1: New features for the iPhone

iPhone 14 users will also receive an innovation for the so-called Dynamic Island with iOS 16.1. According to Apple with the update, the lock screen should also be able to display live activities from third-party apps in the future. With the new software version, the Fitness Plus application can also be used without an Apple Watch.

The wallet app also allows users to share their digital keys with other users via message or WhatsApp. iOS 16.1 also fixes some minor malfunctions – for example within CarPlay and iMessage, which sometimes still displayed messages that had already been deleted.

iPad OS 16.1

With iPadOS 16.1, Apple has meanwhile released a new update for the iPad. It includes numerous new functions that some of you may already know from the iPhone running iOS 16. However, there are also some exclusive new iPad features. Probably the most important thing is the so-called Stage Manager.

The new multitasking interface allows iPad users to switch between multiple desktops, for example. In addition, with iPadOS 16.1 up to four windows can be arranged side by side. On some models, users will also be able to upscale the screen resolution in the future.

Install iOS 16.1

iOS 16.1 has been available for free download since October 24, 2022. Apple traditionally recommends timely installation. The new iPhone update is available for all models from iPhone 8 onwards. The version can be downloaded via the device settings under “General” and “Software update”.

Apple has with iPad OS 16.1 and macOS 13 Ventura also released new software versions for the iPad and the Mac. The new iPad software is available for all Pro models, all iPads Air from the third generation and all iPads and iPad Minis from the fifth generation.
