Instagram will focus more on videos and less on photos
Instagram really wants to copy TikTok and proves it once again by announcing that it is betting more on videos. The photos will remain present on the social network, but they will be somewhat set back.
Instagram changes are disturbing
Several celebrities, including Kylie Jenner (360 million subscribers) and her sister Kim Kardashian (326 million subscribers) criticized Instagram’s recent update, with various changes and a focus on video. There are even petitions with almost 160,000 signatures. On Instagram, a publication “Let Instagram become Instagram again” culminates nearly 1.8 million likes.
In view of the situation and the criticisms, Adam Mosseri, the boss of Instagram, reacted in a video posted on… Twitter. He confirms that Instagram will shift more and more to the video format over time, which he says will happen “even if we don’t change anything”. He believes that the content shared by users evolves over time and Instagram will have to “to look into this change while continuing to support photos”.
The social network is experimenting with a “a number of different changes on the app”, according to Adam Mosseri. The fullscreen version that some users already have is a test for a “small percentage of people”. The executive explains that Instagram is investigating whether a full-screen experience for photos and videos could be “a more fun and engaging experience”. If the feature sees the light of day, it will be improved first.
bad recommendations
Also, users are not happy with the recommendations made to them. Instagram shows them photos or videos of people they don’t follow. According to the leader, recommendations can be paused for up to a month, but Instagram will try to improve on recommendations because it is “one of the most effective and important ways to help creators reach more people”.
As for photos, Instagram wants to adapt and Adam Mosseri makes it clear that he prefers to bet on videos. The app “needs to evolve because the world is changing rapidly” and Instagram “must change with”he said.
