Instagram rolls out chronological timeline: this is how you use it

A feature that many users have been waiting for in Instagram is finally available. You can finally sort your timeline chronologically.

Instagram: chronological order

In early January, Instagram started rolling out a new option in the timeline. From that moment on, an option became available to show the timeline of favorite users, along with the chronological order. Despite being announced, it took a while before it became available to everyone. Now it’s finally here. You can sort your timeline better again.

A few years ago, Instagram chose to organize the timeline differently. Instagram used its own algorithm for this, where the system determined which photos and videos you saw first. That regularly ensures that you miss many other messages. There should be a solution for that with this new update.

Set timeline

The feature is being added by Instagram via a server-side update. This means that it is added automatically, so you don’t have to download an update for it from the Google Play Store. This is happening in phases, so it may take a while until everyone can use it.

At the top you will see an arrow next to the Instagram logo. When you tap this, you will see several options. This way you can open a timeline with favorites. Here you choose which people you want to follow in a ‘separate timeline’.

Another option is ‘next’. Tapping this will open the timeline in chronological order. This means that the newest posts are at the top, the oldest at the bottom. If you leave that timeline, you will return to the standard overview where Instagram’s algorithm determines what you see.

It is striking that the function (with us) seems to disappear in between and come back again. So you have to be lucky too. If you don’t want to miss anything from DroidApp on Instagram, follow our account here.
