You can now play Netflix games (but not on the iPhone for a while)

With a Netflix subscription, in addition to non-stop binging, you can now also play endless mobile games. The streaming giant launched its game offering on Tuesday evening. The games are now only available on Android devices, but Netflix confirms that the games are also coming to iPhone.

Mobile games on Netflix

Netflix subscribers get access to mobile games with their subscription. Currently, the offer consists of five games: Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast and Teeter Up.

The games can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, which requires a Netflix subscription. Starting today (Wednesday, November 3), Netflix will roll out the games to the app itself. The games get their own row there and there is a special tab. You can download and play the games from the app. Some games are also available to play offline.

At the moment the game selection is sparse, but Netflix aims to build a library of games that offers ‘something for everyone’: from the beginner to the seasoned gamer. You don’t need an extra subscription for the games and there are no in-app purchases on ads. In that respect, the service is very similar to Apple Arcade, Apple’s game service.

Netflix games: when for iPhone?

Now the games are only available to Android users, but iOS support is ‘on the way’. The company isn’t more specific, so it’s not clear when the Netflix games will come to the iPhone and iPad.

With the mobile games from Netflix, Apple Arcade has an important competitor. This gives you access to more than 200 games for an amount of 4.99 euros per month – without advertising or in-app purchases. The games can be played on your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
