‘ING is working on the integration of Google Pay and Garmin Pay’

Judging by the latest news from the banking world, a major improvement is in store for ING customers. Those with an Android device will be able to use Google Pay in the future. The orange-colored bank is also working on Garmin Pay.

ING gets Google Pay

It is a highly requested feature among ING customers, and now it seems that the bank is really working on it; Google Pay. ING customers do not have to do without mobile payments; this is simply possible via ING’s own application with which you can also do your banking. However, the bank has now informed various people on Twitter that it is working on the integration of Google Pay. According to a message on the social network Twitter, the bank is working on this, but it is not yet known when the service will actually be available to users.

The Google Wallet app, which was updated last year, also bundles the options of Google Pay. Several banks in the Netherlands already offer support for Google’s app, which previously maintained its own payment app. We see this reflected in, for example, Rabobank and ABN Amro. Now ING also seems to be following suit. Google Pay/Google Wallet is also supported by various other banks such as Bunq, N26 and Revolut, where we recently wrote an extensive article about the latter bank. With Revolut you can not only open an account for free, you also get a free credit card and you do not pay high surcharges if you convert your money into another currency. You can read all about this in our article about Revolut.

ING has been offering the payment option in its own app since 2015. In 2020 and also in 2022, the bank confirmed that it had no plans to work on Google Pay. It seems that the bank has changed direction. Not only is Google Pay being worked on for both the smartphone and the smartwatch; the bank is also working on paying via the smartwatch with Garmin Pay, so leave know the bank. It is also unclear when support will be added.
