ING Banking app makes customers aware of the carbon footprint of spending
A new function is being rolled out to the ING Mobile Banking app and to the internet banking of the orange-colored bank. Customers can use the ‘Footprint Insight’ option, which provides insight into the carbon footprint of expenditures that are made.
Ecological footprint in ING app
ING has announced that it will provide insight into the ecological footprint of customers in the Mobile Banking app and in My ING app. An estimate of the CO2 footprint is shown based on your spending. This indication is given on the basis of monthly expenses, per category. Think of groceries, shopping or fixed costs. This is then multiplied by means of the emission factor. In this way, ING hopes to make people aware of the climate and thus continue the fight against climate change.
The ‘Footprint Insight’ feature is available for the first time among a group of 350,000 customers, on a trial basis. They currently already have the option to label income and expenses per spending category. According to ING, no distinction is made at the store where you shop. Together with the group of customers, we look at how they like the position and what could possibly be improved. The feature will then be more widely available in the future. Rabobank previously showed the CO2 emissions of transactions in the app.
