Ikea and Spotify are both from Sweden – so it’s no big surprise that the furniture store and the music streaming provider are now teaming up. Now the first details about a Bluetooth speaker that has its own Spotify button have become known.

Ikea has long had speakers in its range that are manufactured together with Sonos. In addition to the more conventional-looking variant, Ikea also offers quite unusual speakers that have a second function as a lamp or picture frame. As it now turns out, Ikea also wants to cooperate with Spotify.

Ikea: speaker with Spotify button is coming

First details about the upcoming “Vappeby” speakers have come to light. It is a Bluetooth speaker that also serves as a lamp and does not require a power cable. Instead, the integrated battery is charged via USB-C (source: FCC ID). As a special feature, there is also no WLAN connection. Instead, a Spotify button is available as a “Spotify Tap”. Once pressed, a direct connection to the Spotify account is established.

Ikea would also like the speaker as a Outdoor device position. The certification according to IP65 fits this, which ensures sufficient protection against dust and splash water. According to initial information, “Vappeby” should be able to provide up to 13 hours of music playback via Spotify at a medium volume.

How much Ikea would like to have for the Bluetooth speaker is not yet known. Ikea has not yet revealed when it will be launched. Since some specifications of “Vappeby” have already surfaced at the Federal Communications Commission, it should be published won’t take too long anymore.
