‘If you’re looking for balance, you keep looking for something that isn’t there at all’

According to these mothers, it is better to keep the perfect balance in the gym or in your accounting, where it belongs.

Anita (42), mother of Nikki (15) and Melle (12).

“As far as I’m concerned, many mothers, like me, should stop looking for balance. As a priority manager, it is my mission to let enterprising mothers choose for themselves, without too much woolly hassle. It’s not that much fun, and sitting on a pillow in the lotus position all day only gives one thing: cramps. Your mountain of laundry doesn’t get smaller either.

The eternal balancing

For me the quote ‘balance is bullshit’ covers the load. Because when you look for balance, you keep looking for something that is not there at all. I notice in conversations with mothers that this makes them nervous: do they do something nice for themselves, do they feel guilty. If they do everything for their children, they forget themselves. Life is not a freaking balance! Life is characterized by highs and lows, not a flatline.

“Life is characterized by highs and lows, not a flatline”

Forget that balance in your daily life and keep it where it belongs: in sports or in your accounting. The only good balance I think you can use is the combination of Netflix and folding your laundry. That’s a good balance! Believe me, that will make you a lot happier.”

Fried air

Ellyne (43), mother of Tommie (6) and Coen (5).

“I’m fed up with all the time I spend on social media on coaches who promise you all kinds of things. It turns out it’s all hot air. At the end of the day you often find out that you need all kinds of expensive courses and certificates or online seminars. I’m not getting into it anymore. It’s like Arjen Lubach’s myth trap, but in the field of online gurus.”
