Xiaomi will soon stop offering its photo and video synchronization via the cloud. The Chinese manufacturer does not give a reason or an exact time. Xiaomi cloud users are encouraged to switch to Google Photos or download the files. If you don’t do this, you’ll lose your photos and videos forever.

Xiaomi discontinues photo and video cloud

Users of the Xiaomi cloud have to change: As the Chinese manufacturer has announced, the photo cloud will soon be deleted without replacement. At some point in the short year of 2022 – a more precise date has not been given – photo and video synchronization will no longer be available. Then all content will be deleted. Xiaomi has not revealed why the photo cloud is being discontinued.

First users are already seeing the Manufacturer’s strong recommendation to move photos and videos to Google Photos. A migration tool is offered for this purpose. However, a bonus for storage space in the Google cloud is not planned. Xiaomi also explains that after the images and videos have been transferred, all files will be removed from the Xiaomi cloud. A new upload is then no longer possible.

If users don’t want to switch to Google Photos, there is only one other possibility. You can download the saved files from the cloud to your smartphone or other device (Source: Kacper Skrzypek on Twitter).
