Busy in the kitchen with all the preparations for Christmas dinner, don’t pay attention to where you step and suddenly you’re lying on the floor. Things can go wrong during those December festivities.

Suzy (29), mother of Devi (2):

Nothing wrong

In my rush to clean up the kitchen, I slipped on sauce that had apparently leaked onto the floor from the dishwasher. I fell very clumsy and landed on my wrist. I felt a stabbing pain, which I dismissed at first as ‘a little bruised, nothing wrong’. But the pain was so nagging and unpleasant that it made me feel sick. It got progressively worse, especially when I squeezed my hand shut. I couldn’t feel my fingers either.

“I felt a stabbing pain, which I brushed aside at first”

Long story short: that evening I was sitting in the waiting room of the hospital’s out-of-hours surgery to have plaster applied there, while everyone at home was feasting on the rice table. Luck in an accident: all the food was ready and only had to be put in the microwave.”
