‘I hate that my child will be going to primary school soon’

“Indeed, it feels like I’m already grieving,” says Colleen. ‘I have had the moment my child goes to primary school three times before, with my sons. But now my daughter’s pain is just as bad. ‘
Colleen admits it sounds quite dramatic. ‘But it really feels like mourning. Do you know why? It is my last child who spreads her wings and is no longer a ‘baby’. And that breaks my heart. ‘

Not finished

The start of primary school is the end of an era. “The baby you spent sleepless nights and breastfed for hours with, but also the toddler you tried to toilet train – all those stages are over,” says Colleen.

‘Of course I knew that this moment was coming when I registered our daughter at the daycare. Time there prepared her for primary school. She can wait patiently, finish her plate, and so on. She’s ready in every way – but I’m not. ”

Beautiful moments

Despite this, Colleen is of course very encouraging her daughter. ‘She has to develop into a strong, independent girl. I will proudly hang all her assignments on the fridge and start doing homework with her. But until then I will hold on to all those beautiful moments of the past four years, like watching a movie together and then she falls asleep tired on my lap. Just enjoy the little girl that she is. ‘
