‘I felt burdened to request paid parental leave from my employer’

In collaboration with Kek Mama

New parents can take nine weeks of paid parental leave since 2 August. What are the advantages? Can your employer refuse your application? And how do you handle it? Mamaplaats editor-in-chief Laura Hogendoorn discusses it in this podcast with Kek Mama vlogger Eline Olde Kalter and René van der Mark, Creative at Familyblend.

From 2 August you can take nine weeks of paid parental leave, during which you will be paid 70% of your daily wage by UWV. If your daily wage is higher than the legally established maximum daily wage, you will be paid 70% of the maximum daily wage. You are eligible for this arrangement if your child is not yet 1 year old on August 2 or if your foster or adopted child is not yet 8 years old on August 2 and it has been welcomed into the family less than a year ago.
