Huawei develops unique smartphone that Xiaomi and Samsung can only dream of
Huawei may no longer play a major role in Europe when it comes to smartphones, but that doesn’t mean that the Chinese company is holding back on development. Now a smartphone has appeared that would actually be a small revolution that Samsung and Xiaomi have not yet had on their screens.
Huawei flip and slide smartphone
Many manufacturers have now brought foldable smartphones onto the market. They all follow two concepts specified by Samsung. There are no real innovations – until now. Huawei has filed a really interesting design patent. There, a foldable and extendable smartphone is combined. You still get a normal foldable smartphone like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (to test), but the outer display is connected to the inner display and can be pulled out. So the inner display becomes larger and becomes a real tablet.
According to Huawei’s design patent, the new folding cell phone has only one large display that can be folded and extended. When closed, it serves as an outer display with a third of the size. If you open it, you use two thirds as the inner display. If you then pull out the left side, the outer display pulls in and you can use the full size of the screen. The aspect ratio is also greatly improved, which is a big problem with current folding smartphones.
So far, Huawei has relied more on the example of Samsung:
Pull-out displays are still a thing of the future
It is not known when and if Huawei will actually launch such a smartphone with a foldable and extendable display. Samsung and Xiaomi are also working on extendable displays. So far, however, it has not been possible to bring a working device onto the market. Personally, I really like Huawei’s idea. I can’t get used to folding cell phones at the moment, because you always have to make compromises when it comes to display. That would not be the case here, at least in the extended state.
