Android 13 can dramatically reduce game loading times

Android 13 could have a good influence on the loading times of games. Although Google makes some strange choices with its game service Stadia, it is clearly not done with gaming yet. For example, in Android 12 it introduced several new options for mobile gamers and it wants to continue that in Android 13.

Game Dashboard

In Android 12 we saw, among other things, the new Game Dashboard with which you can quickly take screenshots or even entire videos. In addition, thanks to the new Game Mode API, developers can get much better performance from their game, without affecting the battery life of the device. Android 13 will probably get new gadgets on top of that.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman says a new method is being added to the GameManager API called setGameState. This allows games to communicate their status to the system. That helps the system find out if a game can be disrupted, but also what it is doing, loading for example. Because even the loading time is passed on (via GAME_LOADING), the CPU performance can be temporarily boosted and that can reduce the amount of time you have to stare at a loading screen.

Shorter loading times

It would be the intention to make this function possible with Android 13, which should appear later this year, on all devices on that operating system. This should first be tested via the Vendor Test Suite. Of course it is hoped that it does, as it could greatly improve the performance of your game.
