Huawei: Biden administration increases pressure on network equipment

On the part of network equipment, Huawei is definitively put out of the race by the Biden administration. With the signing of the Secure Equipment Act, the FCC is not able to grant licenses to the Chinese brand as well as to its friend ZTE.

The Chinese manufacturer is unable to extricate itself from the doldrums opposing it to the American government. While over the weeks, the firm shows its desire to return to the front of the stage, the Biden administration continues to put sticks in its wheels. The signing of the Secure Equipment Act now prevents the FCC from providing network equipment licenses for Huawei or ZTE.

Facing Huawei, Joe Biden continues the work started by Donald Trump

When he was elected in January 2021, observers expected the Democratic president to undo the work of his predecessor. Among the emblematic measures the sanction around Huawei and ZTE placed on the blacklist. The two manufacturers were excluded from the race for network equipment in the United States. This decision results from the conflict between Washington and Beijing. Subsequently, several European countries followed in Donald Trump’s footsteps. This is the case of the United Kingdom or France having excluded the Chinese manufacturer from its race for 5G.

The recent signing of the Secure Equipment Act further buries Huawei’s presence in network equipment in the United States. Until then, the Chinese brand as well as ZTE could still sell their 5G equipment to operators as long as public funds were not committed to this transaction. Now the FCC can no longer even license the two Chinese companies. “Once we have determined that Huawei or other equipment poses an unacceptable risk to national security, it is illogical to allow the purchase and insertion of such equipment into our communications networks at least as long as the funds feds are not involved. It is the presence of these insecure devices in our networks that constitutes a threat ” states the commissioner of the FCC.

The Chinese manufacturer has still not reacted to this decision but it could once again tarnish its image. Even so, the objective of this one is to make a comeback on the global telephony market after the deployment of Harmony OS.
