HTC will release a new phone on June 28, we know this

HTC is going to present a new smartphone that focuses on applications around virtual reality and the metaverse. On June 28, the brand will tell you all about it at a launch event, but a teaser image already reveals a corner of the veil.

HTC will take another leap in the smartphone market on June 28, according to announcements on Facebook and Facebook Twitter† The company is clearly focused on doing things differently than the competition, which was apparent when it first spoke about its phone aimed at the metaverse.

The planned event also includes a teaser, which again refers to virtual reality applications. We see the mention ‘Viveverse’, a reference to its ecosystem of Vive headsets. In addition, we already see the contours of the upcoming device. The volume buttons are clearly visible on the right and there is a remarkable notch at the top: possibly for a 3.5 mm audio jack. On the left we also see a notch and it is not clear what it will serve for. Very little is known about the device at all. The phone is said to be a flagship, but the specs haven’t been leaked yet.

It’s also not clear what virtual reality applications this upcoming phone will introduce. The LG G5 is an example of a phone that connected to a VR headset, but that never appealed to consumers. Still, of course, the LG phone didn’t have an ecosystem of VR products behind it either. We’ve also seen ways in which phones work like a VR headset, including the Cardboard, Daydream, and Mirage Solo headsets.

Previously, HTC also tried to achieve success with a niche smartphone that is specifically focused on trading crypto coins. It had a 6.0-inch Full HD LCD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and a dual selfie camera. The Exodus-1 received another cheaper variant in 2019, a year after its launch: the Exodus 1s.
