HTC is preparing a new smartphone! Too late ?
The Taiwanese brand launched in 1997, but really became known from 2006 through its first smartphones with the HTC TyTN, the first model launched in its own name. Spearhead of the exploitation of Android, the manufacturer impacts the market with the HTC Dream in 2008, the very first smartphone to run with the operating system. The brand goes so far as to assist Google in its first mobiles, the Nexus.

But over time, HTC, however renowned for its devices, their designs and performance, lost ground and crashed. To survive, the company is diversifying, notably with the HTC Vive, a VR headset launched in 2016 in collaboration with Valve. But for now, the company is just surviving; it even had to sell numerous patents to Google in 2017 to replenish its cash flow.
A new high-end smartphone?
Well, as with every leak, small warning, this information is not worth official confirmation. However, a technical sheet has emerged in recent days on the very serious Geekbench site. What does this document tell us? The main information is that this HTC U23 Pro (the name of the probable model) comes with a lot of features worthy of the high end. 12 Gb of RAM, an Octa-Core chip, very close to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, 5000 mAh battery rechargeable in 22 minutes…

Now, if the information comes to be confirmed, the question arises of the launch of the device. According to leaks, it could be priced starting at $588, putting it neck and neck with the Pixel lineup.
But the competition will be tough for this return from HTC. If the launch were to take place in 2023, it would then face the Nothing Phone 2, the iPhone 15 and even the new generation of Pixel. Isn’t it too late to get back into the race? The brand’s last smartphone that we tested was the HTC U12+ in August 2018! 5 years is a very long time in this market… Quite a challenge for the Taiwanese brand, which will have to draw on all its know-how to conquer new market shares!
