How to transfer eSIM from old device to new one?

The world of mobile phones and other wearable electronics is advancing rapidly, so it is no wonder that even a very basic communication element in the form of a SIM card has received its digital equivalent in recent years. The so-called eSIM allows users not to think about plastic cards and in the event of loss or theft of a mobile phone, it is essentially inalienable. In addition, it also allows manufacturers to omit the slot for a classic rectangle, or use this space differently. If you have already become part of this trend, in time you may be interested in how to transfer eSIM from an old mobile phone, or perhaps also from a watch or other device, to a new one.

How to transfer eSIM?

Although eSIM is an electronic “fingerprint” of a physical card, it is understandably not possible to activate it in multiple devices at once. Even for the security of the information itself (so-called profile), the record is firmly connected to the system and will not be deleted even by restarting the device or by deleting data normally. Even when resetting to factory settings, deleting the eSIM is an optional step. But now let’s talk about a situation where you don’t want to delete anything else from the device.

To transfer from the old device to the new one, it is definitely necessary to delete the record in the original mobile phone, watch and so on in the first place. Each system has this step named a little differently in its settings, but just look for the item “Delete eSIM record” for SIM card management. It’s a seemingly simple step, but before we go any further, we need to mention an important thing in advance to be sure. When activating and deactivating eSIM on any device, it is always necessary to be connected to the Internet (ideally on WiFi), because the profile is paired with the device on a remote server.

What is eSIM?

The so-called “embedded SIM” is a virtual card with a unique network profile, which you download to your phone, watch or other device over the Internet, so you do not physically insert anything.

When you are not connected, the process either fails or you may find yourself in an awkward state where the old device no longer knows eSIM, but the deletion information is not passed on to the operator. Once the entry is deleted from the older device, you can start activating eSIM in the new one. To do this, you will again need the documents (such as a voucher) issued to you by the operator for the profile. Please note that you must take into account that, after reactivation, the PIN code, for example, will return to its original form.

Of course, it can also happen that an older device is stolen from you or is not able to work due to a malfunction. In this case, contact your operator, who will guide you through this specific process. In conclusion: If you are wondering why one profile with one number cannot work in multiple devices (typically for example in a mobile phone + watch), you will have to join a number of other waiters for this gadget. So far, only T-Mobile can provide this “twin” or “twin” mode, moreover only with Aplle Watch.
