iPhone: How to use the Notes app as a messenger

The Notes app pre-installed on the iPhone has many functions that are not immediately apparent. iPhone users can not only use it to make notes, but also, for example, to scan documents, save them as PDFs or secure photos with a password.

However, the app can also be used to send messages. Because the application has a sharing feature that allows multiple people to share and edit a note at the same time. In this way, the writers can also send secret messages to each other.

To use Notes as a secret chat, first open the app. After that, create a new note using the corresponding icon at the bottom right of the screen.

Then you write the text that you want to send to another person. Then use the three small circled dots to open the context menu. There you can share the created note. You have to make sure that you check the “Allow editing” box in the sharing options.

You can then choose which medium you want to use to send the note to another person. This can be iMessage, WhatsApp or another service of your choice. Alternatively, you can also select a contact directly and send a link.

A portrait icon should now appear in the top-right corner of the note, hiding invitees and sharing settings. There you can, for example, display changes. You can also track who wrote what.

If you now click on all three dots again, you can select the option “Manage shared notes”. There you can “Mark all changes”. This highlights the text in different colors to differentiate the individual chat participants.

Secure notes messenger with password

In principle, exchanging messages via the notes app works like any other messenger. The advantage, however, is that all users can see in real time who is typing what.

In addition, this type of communication is more secure in some areas than using a messenger service. For example, all participants can edit and delete what they have written at any time.

In addition, you can even protect the Notes app with a password in the settings of the iPhone. Thus, the conversation is protected from the eyes of strangers and remains “secret”.
