How to get rid of those dark circles under your eyes

Sleep is a scarce commodity in a mother’s life. And with that comes, yes, dark circles under your eyes. Time to take care of them and make them disappear for good!

Puffiness or circles? There is a difference. Puffiness is largely genetically determined and is caused by an excess of skin or fat: they become little cushions under your eyes. Dark circles are blue-purple blood vessels that shine through your skin because the skin under your eyes is very thin. The skin under your eyes is the thinnest skin on your entire body: ten times thinner than on the rest of your face. There are also fewer sebaceous glands under your eyes, making it less well hydrated and more sensitive.

Sleep deprivation

It’s not just your sleep that affects the dark circles under your eyes. Air pollution, the sun or dryness all have a bad influence on your delicate skin. Smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol and sitting in front of your laptop screen for hours are also disastrous. However, lack of sleep is the biggest culprit: it also causes fatigue and stress. And that stress: it becomes visible first on that thin skin.

Okay, so sleep more. But that’s not always the case. Fortunately, there are other ways to tackle those under-eye circles.

You can learn to hydrate

If your skin is not sufficiently hydrated, your eyes will fall a little deeper into your eye sockets. So always make sure you take good care of your skin, especially in the area around your eyes. A nice eye cream with hyaluronic acid, in addition to your normal day cream, is a big tip.

Less salt

Too much salt can cause swelling around your eyes. Your capillaries also become weakened and can start to leak. So it’s time to watch your salt intake. There is too much salt in unhealthy food. So let it stand!

lubricate

Apply daily with a day cream or eye cream with a high SPF. This ensures that you get pigment spots less quickly. And of course it is good to protect your skin from the sun every day. Yes, even in winter!

Shadow

Keep your head out of the sun. Sit in the shade more often, especially around noon, when the sun is at its strongest. Are you lying on the beach and don’t feel like sitting under an umbrella? A hat or cap is your best friend!

Do not rub

Try to rub your eyes as little as possible. This makes the skin even oilier and more vulnerable.
