Spotify is working on a hi-fi subscription: more expensive than you expect

Spotify may be releasing a new paid subscription that will enable high-fidelity sound for subscribers. Spotify Platinum, as the formula will be called, will cost around 20 euros when it is available.

Spotify is considering launching a more expensive subscription for lossless music, which is music where there is no loss of quality due to compression. The so-called Platinum subscription was discussed in a survey that Spotify shares with users who cancel their Premium subscription. Spotify asks whether those users would stay if something like a hi-fi subscription, called ‘Platinum’, existed, according to a message on Reddit. We also get to see a description of that formula.

In addition to the lossless sound, Spotify also offers a tuner with ‘Platinum’, which optimizes the sound of headphones. There are also improvements for playlists and the library, which are called ‘Playlist Pro’ and ‘Library Pro’. For both functions, Spotify would get its mustard from competitor Apple Music. Playlist Pro automatically builds a playlist of songs based on criteria you specify first. With Library Pro, subscribers can customize the metadata of songs, artists and albums themselves. Finally, Spotify is talking about an ‘Audio Insights’ feature, but it’s not clear how it will work.

Spotify Platinum gets a relatively high price according to the survey, because the subscription should cost $ 20 per month. A regular Premium subscription costs $9.99 a month in the United States and $9.99 with us. The price of Platinum can therefore translate to 20 euros per month.

That would make Spotify more expensive than the competition. Higher quality music is included with Apple Music in its regular subscription of 9.99 euros per month and Tidal also already has an advantageous formula of 9.99 euros per month for hi-fi sound. Spotify has previously proposed a Hi-Fi subscription, but it was never made available to users after that announcement.
